Sam Altman says OpenAI going public in 2026 would be ‘ill-advised’
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told Fortune in a 45-minute interview that the company won't go public in 2026, calling it "ill-advised" given the current safety climate. He said OpenAI feels no pressure to rush an IPO and will do it "when we're ready." Altman also said it was "absolutely" possible to build an AI beyond human control, but vowed to pause training if needed to prevent that.

Nvidia wants to pour up to $10 billion into Anthropic's record-breaking IPO
Nvidia is in talks to invest up to $10 billion as an anchor investor in Anthropic's planned IPO, Reuters reports. Anthropic is looking to raise up to $100 billion at a roughly $2 trillion valuation, which would make it the largest IPO in history. Its annual revenue jumped more than sevenfold in about half a year, from roughly $9 billion at the end of 2025 to over $65 billion by July 2026.

I spent $4,000 on a robot dog from China
An Ars Technica reporter bought a Unitree Go2 Pro quadruped robot from China for $4,017 and used it for months. It's still rough around the edges, once collapsing on its back just steps from home after its battery hit 5% and its internal temperature reached 84°C, but the appeal is the price: comparable robots from Boston Dynamics start around $75,000, while Unitree's cheapest Go2 Air model, at $1,600, undercuts Spot by more than 97%. Unitree has carried the same low-cost strategy into humanoid robots, where 2025 revenue jumped eightfold year over year, and shares surged more than fivefold on their first day on the Shanghai exchange in August, valuing the company at $34 billion.

Nscale adds former OpenAI exec Fidji Simo to its board ahead of potential IPO
UK-based AI data center startup Nscale added former OpenAI executive Fidji Simo to its board ahead of a planned fall IPO. Simo had served as CEO of AGI Deployment at OpenAI, effectively the company's No. 2 role, before stepping down in July for health reasons; she now advises the company part-time. She previously led Instacart as chair and CEO through its 2023 IPO and spent over a decade at Meta running the Facebook app, and she joins Sheryl Sandberg, Susan Decker, and Nick Clegg on Nscale's board.

OpenAI targets Wall Street bankers with a new version of ChatGPT
OpenAI launched 'ChatGPT for Financial Services,' a chatbot built specifically for banks and financial institutions. It connects a bank's proprietary data with outside sources like Bloomberg and FactSet, comes preloaded with datasets such as Crunchbase and PitchBook, and helps produce analyst research and client-facing materials, complete with citations for every data-informed output. It links to roughly 50 MCP connectors for other services.

Class action lawsuit accuses Anthropic of overselling Claude subscriptions with deceptive usage multipliers
A class action lawsuit against Anthropic claims Claude subscribers were misled about usage multipliers. The Max Plan advertises 5x Pro-plan usage for $100 a month or 20x for $200, but those multipliers only apply within five-hour windows and are further capped weekly. Plaintiffs say actual usage falls well short of what's advertised, while Anthropic has filed a motion to dismiss, arguing the relevant terms were disclosed via hyperlinks during purchase.

OpenAI adds a prominent AI doomer to its board of directors
OpenAI announced on September 9 that AI alignment researcher Paul Christiano has joined the board of the OpenAI Foundation. Christiano developed reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), the technique now core to training chatbots, during his earlier stint at OpenAI, before leaving in 2021 to found the Alignment Research Center and later advise a US government AI safety body. He will sit on the board's Safety and Security Committee, which has final say over whether new models ship.

OpenAI Widens Its Lead Over Google Again After GPT-5.6
ChatGPT's web traffic share had fallen to 52.7% by May before climbing back to 55.5% in August, widening the gap with Gemini's 25.6% again. Both services topped 950 million monthly users in July and passed 1 billion in August, but the turning point was July's release of GPT-5.6. OpenAI paired that launch with steep price cuts, including an 80% cut to input token pricing, and says enterprise revenue jumped 32% month over month afterward.

Google Cloud races to catch up in the AI deployment wars with Accenture deal
Google Cloud and Accenture launched the Accenture Gemini Enterprise Business Group, training 1,000 Accenture consultants as Forward-Deployed Engineers who will build AI applications on Google's Gemini Enterprise platform. Ramp data for August showed Anthropic holding 43.5 percent and OpenAI 39.7 percent of enterprise AI spending, versus roughly 6 percent for Google. This partnership is meant to close that gap.

French AI lab Mistral said on September 8 it raised €3 billion (about $3.58 billion), led by Samsung Electronics, at a post-money valuation of more than €21 billion (about $24.39 billion).
