Nscale adds former OpenAI exec Fidji Simo to its board ahead of potential IPO
UK-based AI data center startup Nscale added former OpenAI executive Fidji Simo to its board ahead of a planned fall IPO. The complex corporate web behind a $3.2 billion AI data center
A fire broke out in June at the Lake Mariner data center in New York, and firefighters found no working alarm or suppression system, and were told the safety documents they were legally entitled to see had burned in the blaze. The $3.2 billion facility is owned and operated by TeraWulf, actually run day-to-day by UK-based Fluidstack, backed by Google, which holds warrants for a future 14% equity stake and guarantees the lease payments, while Anthropic is among the companies whose compute demand the site serves. TeraWulf has not responded to local residents' requests for a meeting since the fire.

Why China Is the Bogeyman Data Center Enthusiasts Just Can't Quit
As American opposition to local data centers surged from 42% to 75% in a year, politicians and tech boosters are pinning the blame on Chinese influence operations. X said last month it had identified 200 China-linked accounts spreading anti-data-center sentiment, and President Trump joined the framing, writing that "China could not be happier with this anti Data Center movement."

Nvidia to Launch 'RTX Spark' AI PC Chip in October, Unveils 'PAIR' Personal AI Router
At IFA 2026 in Berlin on September 3, Nvidia unveiled a next-generation platform for running large AI models directly on personal PCs. Its Arm-based 'RTX Spark' processor pairs a Blackwell GPU with a Grace CPU for up to 128GB of unified memory and 1 petaflop of AI compute, with Lenovo and Acer shipping the first Windows PCs in October. Alongside it, Nvidia introduced 'PAIR,' a free router that pools idle GPUs from multiple PCs on the same network for a single AI task.

Nobody Is Saying Why OpenAI and Anthropic Had Outages Today
ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok all went down within the same window on the morning of September 3. OpenAI fixed its routing error in 34 minutes, while Anthropic and xAI each took close to three hours to recover. Each company gave a different explanation, and no shared cause showed up at common infrastructure providers like Cloudflare, AWS, or Azure.
